The primate walk starts from Kanyanchu river camp at 8:00 am or 3:00 pm. It lasts for 2 – 4 hours and it is the most popular walk, highlighting the diversity of different animals and plant species within the forest. This walk is restricted to three groups of six persons each in the morning and the same number in the afternoon. You will definently see our closest living relatives, the endangered chimpanzee as well as the threatened red colobus monkey, and the rare L’Hoeste monkey. In the afternoon, visit Bigodi village for either the famous swamp walk where you will see diversity of bird life species including the blue Turaco and primates at very close range, or take village – community walk appreciate and get acquainted with cultural norms: the African medicine man healing, cultural history on marriage and settlement in the area, land tenure and traditional agricultural practices, metal works and iron smith. Certainly these walk are experience rewarding and fantastic as well. In the evening drive back to the lodge.

Day 4Gorilla Tracking

Up relatively early for a hearty breakfast. Before 8:00 am report to the ranger station for registration and a talk by one of the rangers; the guides will then take you through the bush pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas. A good ammount of fitness is needed as this trek can take from half an hour to 9 hours. Do not forget a sturdy pair of walking shoes for the experience. Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male; the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas.
